How analytics, local preferences, hosting, and the contact form handle data.
Last updated: July 31, 2026
This is the personal website of Eloi Barti. This page explains what data is processed when you visit, and the choices you have. The short version: analytics does not load unless you explicitly accept it, and interactive features only process the data needed to do what they say.
Analytics (only if you accept)
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read. It loads only after you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you decline — or simply ignore the banner — no analytics script runs and no analytics cookies are set.
If you accept, Google Analytics collects:
- Pages you visit and how you arrived (referrer)
- Approximate location (country/region, derived by Google; full IP addresses are not logged or stored by Google Analytics 4)
- Device and browser information
It sets the following first-party cookies:
_ga— distinguishes visitors; expires after up to 2 years_ga_*— keeps session state; expires after up to 2 years
The data is processed by Google LLC on my behalf and may be processed on servers outside the EU. Google Consent Mode is configured so that all storage is denied by default; advertising features are not used.
You can withdraw your consent at any time via the button (also in the footer of every page). Withdrawing deletes the Google Analytics cookies set by this site and stops any further collection.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you enter are forwarded to my inbox as an email (delivered via Resend). I use them only to reply to you. They are not stored in a database, shared with anyone else, or used for marketing.
The contact page uses Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam and abuse (legitimate interest). reCAPTCHA is loaded on the contact page only and may set Google cookies for bot detection. See Google's privacy policy and terms of service.
Blog comments
Blog posts use giscus, an open-source comments widget backed by GitHub Discussions. Loading the comments requests public discussion data from giscus and GitHub. Giscus states that it does not use tracking or advertising.
To post or react, you must sign in with GitHub and authorize the giscus GitHub App. Your GitHub username, avatar, comment, edits, and reactions are public in the comments repository and may also appear on this site. Comments are moderated through GitHub. See the GitHub Privacy Statement for how GitHub processes account and connection data.
Local storage (functional only)
A few preferences are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and are not used for tracking:
theme— your light/dark mode preferencecookie_consent— your analytics consent choice (re-asked after 12 months)eb_engagement— a small local reading-progress counter that unlocks a badge; it is never transmitted anywheregiscus-session— the giscus sign-in session, created only if you authorize giscus to post through GitHub
Hosting
The site is served through Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes connection data (such as your IP address) in server logs, transiently, to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (withdrawal is as easy as consent — one click in the footer). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
For anything privacy-related, reach out via the contact page.
